Chairs Update – May 2019

2019 May Chairs Update.

Another busy month starting with the Annual Cricket day which for the first time was a sell out at Blackfinch New Road.

A most enjoyable day was made complete with a Rapids win, thanks to Directors Steve Taylor and Phil Fowler along with Tracey Hopkins and Sharon Rea for doing the organising so we could all enjoy ourselves.

Strictly Worcestershire was I personally the best one to date, congratulations to Ambassadors Elaine Watt and husband Stuart for being the overall winners and to Tracy and Tony Lowe for winning the audience vote. However, all the competitors deserve our gratitude for the months of training and rehearsals that went into putting on a show that would not have been out of place in the West End.

Lots of people to thank for putting on the show but I will single out our Vice Chair Julia Williams whose personal determination and attention to detail made this a memorable evening.

June is starting with Ladies day at Worcester Race Course and I am delighted that we have a table in the St Richards Marquee organised and hosted by Tracey Hopkins.

June is promising to be as busy for our members with the:-

  • Family’s day for our Charities on the 2nd June at the Safari Park.
  • The launch of “One Worcestershire” on Monday at Blackfinch New Road.
  • There are still some tickets available on the website for the Severn Valley Railway Sunday lunch on Sunday 23rd , I hope to see many of you on what is always a great day out.

We have added another event on Thursday 26th September we are holding a lunch at Hogarths Stone Manor Near Kidderminster with guest speaker Worcester born “Mel Nicholls” who suffered life changing injuries after a serious car accident in 2001.

Mel has gone on to become a Paralympic Athlete (T34 Wheelchair racer) getting to the final in London 2012 then winning Silver in the World Championships.

Mel is now an accomplished speaker and we are delighted that she has agreed to share her story with us. She will be joined by Worcestershire Ambassador John Peters.

Tickets are £40 each and include a drinks reception at 12 noon  followed by a three-course meal at 12.30. The day is due to end at 16:30

Congratulations to Nigel Smith whose pub “The Fleece at Bretforton” was judged ”Pub of the Year” by the Daily Telegraph.

And Finally I would like to welcome new members :- Simon Fall Taylor, John Williams, Andrew Lavoipierre, Diana Evans, Ian Richards, Ellen Halpin – Barnett. Ania Naughton and Christina Darling and look forward to meeting them very soon.
